The Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule describes privacy
standards that protect your medical and health information.
It identifies your rights to access and control your health
information. It outlines how various health providers may
use and disclose your protected health information to carry
out treatment, payment or health care operations and for
other purposes that are permitted or required by law. Effective
April 14, 2003, all health care facilities and physicians
will be required to comply with the new federal privacy
rules concerning how your health information is shared,
stored and utilized. Our Podiatry Practice considers protecting
